CARRAUNTOOHIL SUMMIT
Scaling Ireland’s highest mountain, 1,039m Carrauntoohil is a literal highlight of a visit to the Reeks District, whether the often-incredible views from the summit reveal themselves or not thanks to the ever-changing weather.
As you begin this climb from sea level, it can provide quite the challenge, but there are a variety of routes to suit different skill levels, from beginners to advanced rock climbers. We’ve highlighted two of them here: the Devil’s Ladder (the most popular route) and Brother O’Shea’s Gully (a challenging route with scrambles but without having to use ropes).
Whichever you choose, reaching the top (and the obligatory summit selfie that goes with it) will ensure you have social media bragging rights for a good while.
