In the Gaelic calendar, Samhain ushers in the dark part of the year ruled over by the mother goddess, Morrigan. This is when the seasons change and the pace of life slows down.
Our Samhain Walking Festival is all about appreciating the changing seasons by enjoying crisp autumn walks before warming up by the fire.
It’s a time for getting cosy, appreciating the comfort of hot drinks, company and passing time with a good story.

Portal Tombs
Samhain was a time of year when the entrance to the otherworld was open. The Reeks District is home to some of the oldest extant burial structures in Ireland, which we will visit with an archaeologist.
Autumn Forest Walk
When the leaves turn bright red and orange, there is no better place to be than on a trail through one of our forests.
Candlelit Acoustic Sessions
Throughout Irish history, Samhain celebrations marked the beginning of a season where entertainment revolved around fireside music and stories, a tradition we carry on with acoustic sessions in the pub.

Pumpkins have become the modern symbol of Hallowe’en, but the tradition of carving scary faces into vegetables stems from the Samhain practice of carving turnips.
