BLACK VALLEY

The Black Valley, which connects the Gap of Dunloe with Moll's Gap, is a place of stunning beauty and is also part of the Kerry Way.

Famed cycle route

The Black Valley forms part of the iconic Ring of the Reeks, a 90km cycling route around some of Ireland's highest mountain passes.

Historic home

The valley is home to the ruined 19th-century Lord Brandon's Cottage that is now a cafe popular with people hiking the Kerry Way.

Changing colours

Wild yellow irises, red fuchsia, purple heather and yellow gorse line the road in spring and summer before autumn's deep reds and browns arrive.

Remote retreat

The Black Valley is so remote it is famed as one of the last places in Ireland to recieve electricity when the lights were swtiched on in 1976.
