Gap of Dunloe
* Freedom to breathe
GAP OF DUNLOE
This narrow, picturesque mountain pass, formed in the last Ice Age, separates the MacGillycuddy's Reeks from the Purple Mountain Group.
Hill walking
As well as hikes in the surrounding mountains, walkers can enjoy an 11km hill walk from the pub/restaurant Kate Kearney's Cottage to the Gap's head.
Historic hostelry
Set at the foot of The Gap, family-run Kate Kearney's Cottage has been hosting walkers and hikers for more than 150 years.
Famed cycle route
The Gap of Dunloe is part of the iconic Ring of the Reeks, a 90km cycling route with lung-busting climbs that is part of our Big Five adventures.
Carved by glaciers
Formed by a glacier moving from the Black Valley 25,000 years ago, The Gap is home to a series of glacial lakes connected to the River Loe.
