BEAUFORT
Sitting at the foot of Carrauntoohil and by the banks of the Laune, Beaufort is a small scenic village with just a handful of shops, pubs, homes and holiday lets.
Mountain pass
Beaufort marks the start of the Gap of Dunloe, the picturesque mountain pass that separates MacGillycuddy's Reeks from the Purple Mountain Group.
Medieval castle
Northwest of the village on the River Laune sits the ruins of the 16th-century tower house, Ballymiss Castle.
Historic stones
The Dunloe Ogham Stones are a National Monument and feature a collection of 5th- and 6th-century stones inscribed with a medieval alphabet.
Play a round
Set among 200-year-old trees and a 15th-century castle, Beaufort Golf Club is a relatively new, 18-hole parkland course.
