Kingston's Bar & Townhouse
Situated in the heart of Killorglin, Kingston’s Bar & Townhouse is the ideal base for those who love the outdoors. Within half an hour’s drive be at the lakeside, on the river, in the Atlantic Ocean or at the foot of Ireland’s highest mountain, Carrauntoohil. It’s all here on your doorstep: hillwalking, cycling, fishing, hunting or playing golf.
At Kingston’s Bar & Townhouse, your hosts, Aoife and Erwin Kingston, outdoor enthusiasts themselves, know what their guests enjoy: being ready to face all the challenges the Irish weather sometimes throws at them, doesn’t mean guests don’t enjoy some luxury when the opportunity arises!
Enjoy the comfort of one of the Townhouse’s twelve en-suite bedrooms, beautifully decorated in a chic and contemporary style. (A wheelchair-accessible room is also available.) Each room is named after one of the Reeks, with The Carrauntoohil being their superior room. A thoughtful touch is the detail provided in each room on the history and culture, myth and legend surrounding each individual ancient peak.
With the comfort of guests a priority, a lot of thought has been put into the amenities on offer: let a spell in the sauna soothe those aching muscles after a day’s cycling in the hills, knowing the outdoor gear is in the drying room, getting ready to go the next day, and bikes are safely in the bike store. What to do with the catch of the day? No problem. Feel free to use the fish and game filleting station and collect on departure from the fridge or freezer storage facility. Add to this a gun safe and it is clear that Aoife and Erwin are providing a unique combination of facilities with the outdoor enthusiast in mind!
After freshening up, there is plenty to do in the evening. Head out into Killorglin to dine in one of the town’s many and varied restaurants, all within a stone’s throw of your accommodation – guests are spoilt for choice.
Why not finish the evening soaking up the friendly atmosphere in Kingston’s bar, known for serving a great pint since 1889? Erwin carries on a proud family tradition. As the fourth generation of the Kingston family, he offers a friendly greeting to customers behind the well-stocked bar. Warm yourself by the cosy woodburning stove when there’s a nip in the air and mull over which whiskey or gin to try from the wide range on offer. This charming traditional bar is the ideal venue for chatting with friends about the day’s highlights and finalising plans for tomorrow.
Breakfast for guests at the Townhouse is continental in concept: healthy and nutritious, energising and sustaining, the first meal of the day showcases, where possible, seasonal and local produce including a range of freshly-baked breads, yogurts and cereals.
Aoife and Erwin invite you to enjoy the great outdoors and come home to a warm Irish welcome at Kingston’s Bar & Townhouse.
