Shelmalier

Situated in a peaceful location, overlooking the beautiful Castlemaine Harbour, Shelmalier is just a short five-minute drive from the town of Killorglin on the Ring of Kerry. It is also close to the Wild Atlantic Way and other attractions such as Dooks Golf Course, the award-winning Jacks’ Coastguard Restaurant and Cromane Strand. It’s an ideal base for exploring Killarney and Dingle.  For those planning a visit to Skellig Michael, Port Magee and Valentia Island are about an hour’s drive away.

Walkers and cyclists will find this a handy base for parts of the Kerry Way or for traversing quiet rural roads with unspoilt bogland views.

Your hosts, Margaret and Gary, invite you into their home where they can accommodate up to four guests, in two cosy and comfortable bedrooms (one with kingsize bed and the other a queensize bed) both of which are ensuite.  In addition, guests have access to their library which offers panoramic views of the harbour. This is a lovely space for relaxing with a good book or simply spending time taking in the view.  Guests can also catch up with friends or surf the internet using the free wi-fi internet access.

After a comfortable night’s rest, guests start their day with a healthy and sustaining continental-style breakfast. Enjoy Margaret’s homemade breads and granola, and add to these accompaniments such as cheeses, yogurt and fruit, provided, where possible, by local producers.

One of Margaret’s lifelong passions is cooking and she enjoys entertaining family and friends.  By prior arrangement, Margaret can also provide a three-course evening meal giving guests and/or friends a special dining experience in an intimate setting.  Sample homemade food made with locally-sourced fresh and seasonal ingredients.  This option is also available to non-residents, again by prior arrangement.

Choose Shelmalier for your overnight stay and enjoy Irish hospitality at its best.
