Ballykissane Walk
The first casualties of the 1916 Easter Rising happened here in Killorglin at Ballykissane Pier where there is a monument to commemorate those who drowned when their car plunged off the pier into the River Laune.
This pier was once a landing point for coal, timber and other products in the days when water transport quite literally ruled the waves but in recent years is home to an annual Regatta.
Ballykissane is also renowned for bird watching especially on the mud flats when the tides are out.
This genteel walk from town to the pier may not be on an organised path, but it is flat and smooth, making it ideal for those with buggies or in wheelchairs.
