HYDRO ROAD WALK
This steep road will bring you straight up to Loch Eighter, a mountain lake skirted by the ridges of Caher and Carrantuohill.
The walk begins on a steep road through mountain pastures with sheep grazing in every direction and the glen laid out behind you.
When you reach Loch Eighter, you will have a view of Caher and Carrauntoohil looming above you with bare, purple-coloured sandstone and jagged arêtes carved by a glacier during the Ice Age.

Lord of the Rings
The Reeks often draw comparisons to The Lord of the Rings, which is perhaps not surprising considering that Tolkien spent a lot of time hiking in the west of Ireland while writing the series.

The MacGillycuddy of the Reeks was a chieftain title from Gaelic Ireland.
