CAHERCONREE

The second highest of the Slieve Mish Mountains on the Dingle Peninsula, Caherconree is home to an ancient stone promontory fort full of Irish legend.

National Monument

Two-thirds of the way up Caherconree's southwestern shoulder is an Iron Age promontory fort, the highest in Ireland.

Irish mythology

The fort was said to be the home of Cú Roí mac Dáire, a sorcerer said to have superhuman abilities, including being a master of disguise.

Walking & hiking

The mountain is home to a number of trails, including a 4km route around the fort and the Derrymore Glen Horseshoe, a challenging 11km 5-hour loop.

Summer Solstice

Caherconree is a common midsummer sunrise walk to celebrate the pagan Summer Solstice festival on June 21 each year.
