Carrauntoohil

* Freedom to summit

CARRAUNTOOHIL

Iconic Carrauntoohil towers over the Reeks District at 1,039m and has several routes to the summit where the views over the region are magnificent.

Summit hikes & scrambles

Hikers can choose several routes to reach the iron cross on the summit, including the the Devil's Ladder and Brother O'Shea's Gully.

Rock and winter climbing

Starting at Heavenley Gates, Howling Ridge with a climbing rating of Very Difficult is one of a handful of rock climbing routes to the summit.

Ridgewalk challenge

All three of Ireland's highest peaks can be bagged on the challenging Coomloughra Horseshoe ridgewalk – a circular route that takes hikers to the summits of Carrauntoohil, Beenkeragh and Caher all in one day.

Wild swimming

Brave climbers taking the Brother O'Shea's Gully route to the summit may take a dip in Ireland's highest lake Lough Cummeenoughter. It's freezing and not for the feint-hearted.
