Glencar Cattle Show
The Glencar Cattle Show is the biggest event on the agricultural calendar in Kerry. Every summer on the last Sunday in June, farming enthusiasts descend on the pitch in Lickeen to show off their cows, horses, sheep and other animals.
It’s a tradition that goes back to 1940 when the agricultural show was developed with the aim of showcasing Kerry cows, a breed of small black cattle native to Kerry that is one of the oldest in Europe.
In addition to livestock competitions, Glencar Cattle Show offers a lot in the way of craic, including music, food and entertainment for kids.

Kerry cows
The event showcases Kerry cows, a rare breed of cattle descended from the first cows brought to Ireland in the Neolithic period.
Family fun
There is plenty to keep kids happy at the Glencar Cattle Show, from the fancy dress competition to races for different age groups and even a petting zoo.
Sheep dog trials
Farmers and their dogs compete to round up sheep. Victory hinges on the strength of the bond between farmer and dog.
Irish dancing
An Irish dance competition is part of the festivities so this a good opportunity to enjoy some traditional culture.
